The full soccer program is scheduled from 19th to 21st January 2018 at the Hume City Football Club (HCFC), ABD Stadium, Barry Rd, Meadow Heights Victoria. We are expecting 10 to 12 multicultural teams from diverse newly arrived refugee communities to participate in the 2nd NEC Cup and up to 10 male and female teams in the Bhutanese tournament.
Bhutanese community is one of the newly arrived refugee communities resettled (since 2008) under the Australian Government Humanitarian Settlement Services Program. Prior to their arrival, Bhutanese refugees have spent 20 years of difficult lives in the UNHCR managed refugee camps in Eastern Nepal. Three generations live in a typical household and have strong family bond and community cohesion and connection with each other-this is what makes our community stand alone.
We hope that event such as this brings youth from every newly arrived refugee communities from many ethnic groups, faiths, and allows newly arrived Bhutanese youth to meet and promotes social cohesion, harmony, and interaction across other communities and culture that underpins our multiculturalism and diversity.
Our main objectives is to empower our youth, creating opportunities for them to engage and participate at their fullest and enabling them to enhance their leadership and management skills and ultimately manage future events by youth themselves.
